Administration Staff

Head of School Office

Alun Cooper, Head of School
Alun has been a teacher for 33 years and an administrator for the last twenty five years. He has worked in the UK, Argentina, Liberia, Chile, Egypt and Bahrain, and is now happy to be in Vietnam. Alun has taught IB Diplo ma English courses, Theory of Knowledge as well as IB MYP English. He is a keen supporter of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and has served on many of its committees. The United World Colleges movement has also been amply supported by him over the years. Alun’s interests include rugby, squash, tennis, fly-fishing, windsurfing, sailing, reading, opera, writing poetry and listening to music.

Elementary School

Conal Atkins, Elementary School Principal
Conal has been involved in International education for the past fifteen years. He has held administrative posts in Germany, Luxembourg and Austria. Prior to this, his teaching and administrative experience was within the New Zealand education system in schools ranging from a sole charge primary to independent preparatory schools. He is involved with the Council of International Schools Accreditation Services and served for some years on the European Council of Elementary Principals committee. He is married with two sons, both at University, one in New Zealand and the other in Scotland.

David Porter, Elementary School Assistant Principal
David Porter joined UNIS this academic year with his wife Julie (also teaching in Elementary) and two teenage daughters in Middle School and High School. Originally trained and employed in England, he has been away from his native Manchester for seventeen years, all but three of those years in Asia. He holds an advanced degree in Educational Management and has held leadership positions in schools operating a wide variety of different curricula. Dave is a keen (if aging) sports fan.

Tran Le Minh, Elementary School Secretary
Tran Le Minh gained a Bachelor degree in English from the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in 1996, and a Bachelor degree in Foreign Trade from Hanoi Foreign Trade University in 2001. Minh has been working at UNIS since 1996, fresh from university. For the first six years at UNIS, Minh served as Middle/High School secretary. In 2002, Minh was re-posted as the Elementary School Secretary and she has been in that position till now. Minh loves her job since it gives her wonderful opportunities to work with children and meet with many people from all around the world.

 
 
Middle/High School

Lesley Peacock, Middle/High School Principal
Lesley has worked in International Schools for 12 years and as a teacher in New Zealand for ten years. Previously, Lesley worked in New Zealand, Malaysia, China, Kazakhstan and Spain. During this time she has taught a range of subjects, but prefers to work within an international system delivering the International Baccalaureate MYP and Diploma programmes. Her subject areas include Art and English courses from Grades 6 to 12 and History, Classical Studies and Design Technology within the Middle Years. She has also held the positions of MYP and Diploma Coordinators. Lesley’s interests include photography, painting, ceramics, writing, skiing and diving. She has been Middle/High School Principal at UNIS during the last three academic years.

Chris Vincent, Middle/High School Assistant Principal
Chris has worked in International Schools for the largest part of his teaching career. After spending some 5½ years teaching in schools in his native Tasmania, Australia, he worked for 10 years in Singapore and then six years in The Netherlands. His subject background is computer science and mathematics and he has taught across Middle and High schools. He was the school-wide Director of Information Technology in both his previous schools and served as the Assistant Principal for Grades 6 to 12 at the International School of Amsterdam for 3 years prior to joining UNIS this year. Chris is involved with the Council of International Schools Accreditation Services as well as working with the International Baccalaureate through moderation and school authorization and evaluation. He is married with three sons all of whom attend UNIS. As well as keeping up with an active family Chris enjoys various sports and outdoor pursuits.

Nguyen Thu Thuy, High School Secretary
Thuy joined UNIS in October 2003, six months after her graduation from Hanoi Foreign Trade University. Thuy had worked as a Project Secretary at a Netherlands representative office before joining UNIS, firstly as the temporary Secretary to the Head of School and then as the Elementary School Secretary. She really enjoys her current job as the High School Secretary, which gives her the opportunities to work with parents, teachers and students in our multi-cultural UNIS environment.

 

Nguyen Thuy Anh, Middle School Secretary
Thuy Anh graduated from Vietnam National University in 2004 with a degree majoring in English. Before working at UNIS, she taught English in a private IT college. She started at UNIS in January 2005, working as a teacher aide for the Arts Department and she learned a great deal while working in that position. Thuy Anh is currently the Middle School secretary and she enjoys swimming and listening to music in her free time.

 
 
Admissions

Jessica Pidgeon, Admissions Manager
Jessica joined the UNIS team in October of 2006 and has had many years of experience in the customer service industry. From 2002-2004, she owned and managed a bakery serving expatriates living overseas in Beijing, China. She spent three years working as the marketing coordinator for a subsidiary of a large energy company and also three years as a technical representative and trainer for a small fashion design software company. Jessica has a degree in Business Administration from Skidmore College in New York State. She is an avid runner, certified aerobics instructor, and has two young active boys enrolled at UNIS. Jessica is a member of the Board of Directors at the American Club of Hanoi.

 

Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Admissions Assistant
Thuy joined UNIS in August, 2007. She gained a Bachelor Degree, majoring in English, in 2005. Prior to working at UNIS, she was a staff member at the United States Embassy, where she gained a great deal of experience in communications and customer relations. Thuy is known for her easy-going personality, creativity and willingness to learn, all of which she is applying to her job as Admissions Assistant.

 
Business Office

David King, Business Manager
David joined UNIS as Business Manager in August, 2007, bringing with him 30 years experience as an accounting and management professional. He has worked in the Greater Mekong Sub-region for the past 12 years, most recently based in Cambodia, where for over five years he was the Executive Director, Tax & Corporate Services, for KPMG. David first lived and worked in Hanoi from 1995 to 1997, and he describes returning to Hanoi as “coming home”. Prior to his GMS adventure, David had extensive business experience in commerce, obtained from his position as Financial Controller of a multi-national corporation for over five years in Papua New Guinea. David is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and serves on the International Advisory Committee to the Board of CPA Australia. Outside of work David has an avid interest in sports in general, with a particular passion for rugby, cricket and motorcycles.

Quach Thi Hong Hanh, Assistant Accountant/Cashier
Hanh has a Bachelor Degree majoring in English, Russian and Finance. Before joining UNIS in her current full-time position in May 2007, she worked as an Accountant for foreign companies in Hanoi, including temporary work as the UNIS Cashier.

 

Truong Kieu Lien, Assistant Accountant
Lien joined UNIS in May 2007 as Assistant Accountant. She has a Bachelor Degree of Foreign Language (English) from the Hanoi University for Foreign Studies and a Bachelor Degree of Economics from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University. Before joining UNIS, Lien worked for the Standard Chartered Bank for two years in Treasury operations, CIDSE Vietnam (International NGO) for six years in Administration and SRD Vietnam (Vietnamese NGO) for one year as the Accounting and Administration Officer.

 

Ngo Thi Bao Van, Procurement Officer
Van joined UNIS in August, 2007. Prior to her employment at UNIS, she worked for three years in the import-export industry in the purchasing area. She is a keen traveller.

 

Nguyen Tra Huong, Procurement Assistant / Storekeeper
Huong graduated in Russian studies from Hanoi University in 1992. Later she obtained her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Economics from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University. Before joining UNIS in 1997, she worked for the non-government organisation, Plan International.

 

Pham Nga, Transport Coordinator
Nga joined UNIS in August, 2007.

 

Nguyen Thi Hien, Receptionist
Hien is a graduate of the University of Culture. She worked in a local cultural office in Hanoi before joining UNIS as a receptionist in 2000.

Jolee Mosher, Communications Manager

 

Naoko Inui, Community Liaison Officer
Naoko joined UNIS as the Community Liaison Officer in January 2007. After she obtained her degree in English Literature in Tokyo, Japan, she lived in six countries from the Middle East to South America, working as a free-lance English-Japanese translator while moving around the world with her family. She has lived in Vietnam for nearly six years and was involved in many UNIS activities, most notably as Treasurer for the Parent Teacher Association She has one daughter, Hanako, in Grade 8.

 

Dinh An Ha, Communications Assistant
Ha brings with her a strong background in customer service and more recently branding and brand communications.  Demonstrating a preference for creative work, she has worked for a software development company and before joining UNIS, a design and advertising agency where she worked with Banking/Financial corporate clients on their brand management needs. Married to a community arts facilitator and with one young son, Danny, Ha likes cooking with her husband in their new apartment to create interesting East meets West dishes. 

 

 

Library

Dao Thi Huong: Library Aide
Huong Dao has a Bachelor of art in English. Before working in UNIS, she worked at Hanoi Children Palace as volunteer for three years during the time she was in University. She works at the school for almost 11 years. First two years from 1995 to 1997 she was the school receptionist, and from 1997 onward as the library aide.

 

Joyce Miller, Librarian
I was a teacher at international schools for 15 years before following in my grandfather’s footsteps and becoming a librarian!  What a great choice I made; I love being a librarian.  I get to help people and read for a living—what’s better than that! This is my third international school library, and it is a fabulous one.  I have education degrees from University of Texas and University of Massachusetts, and most recently my Information Science Certificate from University of Washington, Seattle. I have two darling daughters, both adopted from China. We joined UNIS in 2007 and are very excited to be back in Asia.

Le Bach Quynh: Library Aide
In 1992, Quynh completed a Bachelor of Teaching from the Hanoi Foreign Languages Teachers’ University. In 1997, she completed a Bachelor of Economics from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University. She has been working for UNIS as a library assistant since 1999. Before joining UNIS, she worked for a company dealing with hotel rooms, apartments and office leasing. She is married and has one son, and enjoys reading, travelling and shopping. Quynh was born and grew up in Hanoi. She loves Hanoi so much that she can not imagine how she could live far from here.

 

Operations

Liam Eaton, Facilities Manager
Liam is an engineer who has been working in the building and construction industry for more than 25 years. He has worked in the UK, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to joining UNIS in February 2005, Liam worked in the Mekong Delta for three years constructing and installing the first ship lock in Vietnam as well as a solar powered navigation system for the Mekong waterways.

Quach Mai Linh, Operations Officer
Prior to joining UNIS in 2000, Linh was a Project Engineer for over four years for Samsung Engineering and Construction Company at the Rose Garden Tower, one of the first high-rise buildings in Hanoi. After this project was completed, he was selected to supervise the operation and maintenance work of the building as part of the Contractors guarantee obligations. Linh has University Degrees in both English Language and Business Management Administration which have greatly benefited his work, particularly since the move to a larger-scale school campus. He is very satisfied with his work at UNIS and with his family life. He and his two sons play his favourite sports together: chess, games and music, among others.

 

 

Le Trung Hai, Handy man
I worked as a UNIS security staff member for 7 years, starting in 1997. In 2004, I moved to my present position as a handyman at UNIS. I like our school and I enjoy working with the children.

 

 

Phung Hoai Ngoc, Handy man
I have been working for UNIS as a Handyman since 1998. Prior to coming to UNIS I used to work as an electrician for Diplomatic Service Bureau in Van Phuc. I like children and I like working at UNIS.

 

 

Nguyen  Xuan  Loc, Handy man
I’ve been  working  for  UNIS  since  1997 as a Handyman and I very much enjoy working  in  an educational  environment.
I like our school .

 

 

Ngo Quang Kha, Handy man
Before 1997, I worked for a Vietnamese state-owned company. From 1997 to October 2006, I was employed by KURIHARA Vietnam. I moved to UNIS’s Operation Office as the Handyman Storekeeper in October 2006. In my current position, I always do my best and cooperate with other people to fulfill my duties in order to make my contribution to the smooth operations at UNIS. I am married with a 22 year old son who is currently a Fourth Year student at the Industrial University and a 15 year old daughter now in Grade 9.

Marie Candel, School Nurse
Marie joined UNIS as a full time school nurse in August, 2007, after working as a substitute nurse during the 2006-2007 School Year.


Nguyen Vu Lan Anh, School Nurse
Dr Lan Anh graduated from Hanoi Medical University and worked as a doctor in the Hanoi International School clinic for nearly 10 years. She enjoys working with students as they are lovely and have lots of fun. Her interests include reading, swimming, and listening to music. Most importantly she enjoys spending time with her 10 year old daughter.

Nguyen Minh Chung, IT Officer
Chung is a graduate from the Hanoi University of Technology. He also holds an additional Bachelor degree in English from Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. He worked as an Administration Officer for the UNIS Project Office which carried out the Technical Design stage for UNIS from June 2002 to December 2002. Prior to joining UNIS in October 2006, Chung worked for VDC, an Internet Service Provider in Vietnam, for four years. Chung spends most of his time at home with his playful and lovely two-year old son, Bill.

 

Chu Viet Tuan, IT Officer
I was born in Nghe An province, a very famous place on mid Vietnam for our former president Ho Chi Minh’s birthplace and Cua Lo beach. I went to Hanoi to study in 2000 and got Bachelor and Master Degrees at Hanoi University of Technology. Before joining to UNIS, I used to work for Bach Khoa Internetwork Security Center (BKIS) and FPT Corp. I am really interested in doing IT-related works, playing football and drinking BIA HOI.
