Administration Staff
Dr Chip Barder, Head of School
Dr. Barder is entering his 41st year as a professional educator. He has a B.A. degree in Economics with a teaching credential in the social sciences, an M.S. degree in Counseling, and a PhD in Curriculum and Teaching. He has been a teacher, counselor, and principal at all three levels: Elementary, Middle, and High School. He has also been a university faculty member in teacher education and school administration. He has been the head of three different international schools before UNIS for a total of thirteen years. He has served in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Congo again); Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Pekanbaru, Indonesia; Damascus, Syria; Moscow, Russia; and Warsaw, Poland. In the U.S., he has worked in Bloomington, Indiana; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tampa Florida; East Lansing Michigan; and Bellingham, Washington. He believes his greatest achievement is being a parent of three successful adult children, all products of international schools around the world. He is married to Ms. Canada, the Elementary School Counselor, whom he met on his first international opportunity at the school in Kinshasa. This is his second year at UNIS-Hanoi. |

Hanh Han, Head of School Assistant
Hanh Han graduated from Vietnam National University and holds aBachelor of Arts for Teacher of Foreign Language majoring in English in 1995 and National Economic University majoring in banking services in 1997. Before joining UNIS, she had 12 years experience as the Personal Assistant at Hongkong Land, a leading property developer in Hanoi. She is very happy to join UNIS and share her working experience in this ideal educational environment. Her favourite hobbies include reading and playing with her two children; an 8 year old boy and a 6 year old girl. |

Pam Rickard, Board Assistant
Pam is from the UK and arrived with her family in August. Her husband Robin is Director of the British Council Vietnam and two of their children attend UNIS; Matt is in grade 11 and Bryony is in grade 7. Their eldest daughter has just started university in the UK. Previously the family lived in Warsaw and most recently Beijing. Pam worked for the International School of Beijing as their first Board Assistant and she is now delighted to the first Board Assistant at UNIS. Pam has another part-time job which is working at the British Embassy as their Community Liaison Officer. |

Bob Horton, Elementary School Principal
Bob has been a professional educator for thirty-six years and an administrator for the last twenty-six years. He has led both British and international curriculum schools overseas for the past seventeen years, having previously worked in Poland, Turkey, Russia and Egypt. Prior to this, his teaching and administrative experience was within the independent preparatory school sector in the United Kingdom. He is a Workshop Leader for the IB Primary Years Programme and involved with the Council of International Schools Accreditation Services. He was Chair of the European Council of International Schools Elementary Administrators Committee from 2005-2008. He is married with two young daughters, both of whom attend UNIS. |

David Porter, Elementary School Assistant Principal David Porter joined UNIS this academic year with his wife Julie (also teaching in Elementary) and two teenage daughters in Middle School and High School. Originally trained and employed in England, he has been away from his native Manchester for seventeen years, all but three of those years in Asia. He holds an advanced degree in Educational Management and has held leadership positions in schools operating a wide variety of different curricula. Dave is a keen (if aging) sports fan.

Ho Thi Thuy Giang, Elementary School Secretary
Giang gained her BA degree from Hanoi National University – College of Foreign Languages. Giang joined UNIS in November of 2008. Previously, Giang worked with Apollo Education & Training Organization as a Professional Development Supervisor with a wide range of experience in customer care, education and management for 8 years. Giang has been able to work both independently and as part of a team. In her free time, Giang really likes going out with her husband and two lovely sons. |

Nguyen To Quyen, Elementary Secretary
Quyen started in July 2008 as the Assistant Secretary for Elementary, Nurse, and Physical Education (PE) Offices. She holds a Bachelor Degree from Hanoi University of Technology – majoring in English for Specific Purposes. After working in the education field for nearly 3 years, she has found her niche at UNIS as a place she can develop herself and make a long-term commitment. She likes meeting friends, watching movies, and singing Karaoke – admitting she does not have the sweetest of voices but thoroughly enjoys participating. |

Chris Vincent, Middle/High School Principal
Chris has worked in International Schools for the largest part of his teaching career. After spending some 5½ years teaching in schools in his native Tasmania, Australia, he worked for 10 years in Singapore and then six years in The Netherlands. His subject background is computer science and mathematics and he has taught across Middle and High schools. He was the school-wide Director of Information Technology in both his previous schools and served as the Assistant Principal for Grades 6 to 12 at the International School of Amsterdam for 3 years prior to joining UNIS this year. Chris is involved with the Council of International Schools Accreditation Services as well as working with the International Baccalaureate through moderation and school authorization and evaluation. He is married with three sons all of whom attend UNIS. As well as keeping up with an active family Chris enjoys various sports and outdoor pursuits.

Christina Powers, MS-HS Assistant Principal
Christina is a certified school psychologist from California. She has a Master of Arts from Fresno Pacific University in education with an emphasis on school counseling. Prior to arriving in Hanoi, Christina was the High School Counselor and Director of Guidance in Kobe Japan. She has experience placing students in Universities in Australia, Canada, UK, and US. Christina has been at UNIS for over 5 years with her husband and two young children.

Le Hoai Phuong , Middle/High School Secretary
Phuong started working at UNIS in December 2008. Before UNIS, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for a number of foreign organizations. She likes working in international educational environments which she has found at UNIS. She enjoys working with teachers, parents and students of different nationalities. |

Nguyen Thuy Anh, Middle/High School Secretary
Thuy Anh graduated from Vietnam National University in 2004 with a degree in English. Before working at UNIS, she taught English in a private IT college. She started at UNIS in January 2005, working as a teacher’s aide for the Arts Department and she learned a great deal while working in that position. Thuy Anh is currently the Middle School secretary and she enjoys swimming and listening to music in her free time. |

Bronagh Lucardie, Admissions Manager
Bronagh originates from Belfast, Ireland. She has a BS degree with honors in Sociology, post graduate diplomas in both Guidance and Counseling, and in the Management of Training and Development, and is a licentiate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She has held various management, supervisory and leadership roles in her career working within both the private sector and non-governmental organizations, and previously worked as the Elementary School Secretary at the International School of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, before moving to Hanoi in 2007 for her husband’s position as Grade 2 teacher and team leader. Bronagh is married to Daniel and they have 2 young boys. |

Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Admissions Assistant
Thuy joined UNIS in August, 2007. She gained a Bachelor Degree, majoring in English, in 2005. Prior to working at UNIS, she was a staff member at the United States Embassy, where she gained a great deal of experience in communications and customer relations. Thuy is known for her easy-going personality, creativity and willingness to learn, all of which she is applying to her job as Admissions Assistant. |

An gained a B.A. degree in English from Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in and a B.A. in Foreign Trade from Hanoi Foreign Trade University. An joined UNIS in July 2008. Previously, she worked at Hanoi International School for 4 years. Anis appointed as the Accreditation Committee Secretary. She loves the international school environment because it gives her the wonderful opportunity to work with students and teachers from all over the world. Her hobbies are travelling and listening to country and pop music. |

David King, Business Manager
David joined UNIS as Business Manager in August, 2007, bringing with him 30 years experience as an accounting and management professional. He has worked in the Greater Mekong Sub-region for the past 14 years, most recently based in Cambodia, where for over five years he was the Executive Director, Tax & Corporate Services, for KPMG. David first lived and worked in Hanoi from 1995 to 1997, and is now settled in Hanoi with his wife and young daughter. Prior to his GMS adventure, David had extensive business experience in commerce, including 5 years as Financial Controller of a multi-national corporation in Papua New Guinea. David is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA), and serves on the International Advisory Committee to the Board of CPA Australia. His community involvement In Hanoi includes a directorship of AusCham, as well as being on the Advisory Committee of the CPA Australia Vietnam office. Outside of work David has an avid interest in sports in general, with a particular passion for rugby, cricket and motorcycles.

Hoang Thu Thuy, Chief Accountant She gained a MBA degree in International Accounting from Swinburne Technology University. She has had more than 10 years of experience in the hospitality and construction industry. Prior to joining UNIS in 2008, she worked for KOTO organization in Hanoi where she was excited with the valuable statement “Know one teach one”. She likes spend time reading, cooking for her family, and playing with her children.

Vuong Thu Huong, Business Secretary
Huong has been the UNIS Business Office Secretary since January 2008. She assists with general office co-ordination, managing appointments, translation of documents, and other secretarial duties. Prior to joining UNIS, Huong was in the field of construction project management while working for Pacific Consultants Internationals (PCI - PK2). Before that, she was employed by Apollo Education & Training which she joined in her final year of studies. At Apollo, she supported all aspects of the Marketing and Academic Departments that served thousands of internal & external clients staying for 4 years. Huong is a graduate of Hanoi Foreign Trade University and holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business with a concentration in Foreign Oriented Economics. Huong is dedicated to community service and business networking so she became active in the UNIS Community Service Program working with students and their outreach programs. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling to many parts of Vietnam and other foreign lands. |

Do Thuc Uyen , Financial Accountant Uyen has been working for UNIS since January 2009 as a Financial Accountant. Previously, she had worked for AITCV – an international training and education organization for almost five years. Uyen gained a BA degree in Credit and Finance in 2003 and a Masters degree in Business Administration in 2008. She likes working in educational environment where she can learn much from teachers and students.

Quach Thi Hong Hanh, Expenditure Accountant
Hanh has a Bachelor Degree majoring in English, Russian and Finance. Before joining UNIS in her current full-time position in May 2007, she worked as an Accountant for foreign companies in Hanoi, including temporary work as the UNIS Cashier. |

Ngo Thi Bao Van, Procurement Officer
Van joined UNIS in August, 2007. Prior to her employment at UNIS, she worked for three years in the import-export industry in the purchasing area. She is a keen traveller. |

Trinh Kim Chung, Procurement Assistant
Chung graduated from Hanoi National Education University and, at the same time, received a degree of
English from Hanoi Foreign Language University in 2006. She first joined UNIS in 2008 as an ECC Teacher Aide for 6 months and then moved to Business Office as the Procurement Assistant. Chung loves children and enjoys working at UNIS. As she always want to improve herself and find more opportunities, she is now doing a second degree of Foreign Economics at Foreign Trade University in the evening. Chung grew up in Quang Ninh province with the famous Ha Long Bay, Tra Co Beach, Koto Island, etc. . |

Chu Xuan Lai, Logistics Officer
Lai joined UNIS in September 2009 bringing with him almost 10 years of experience in the hospitality service industry. Before joining UNIS, Lai worked for Melia Hotel as a Front Office staff for 3 years and then moved to m hotel (now Movempick) in 2001 for a new challenge. His last position at m hotel was Assistant Front Office Manager with included a wide range of tasks in customer service and staff coordination. Lai is married with two boys ages 6 and 1. He is enjoying the professional environment at UNIS because of the friendly people and time allowance for his family and further education in a Master program of Hospitality Management.

Truong Kieu Lien, Revenue Accountant Ms. Truong Kieu Lien has been working for UNIS since July 2009 as the Revenue Accountant. She previously worked for UNIS in Accounting team before leaving in June 2008. Coming back to UNIS, her main duties now are Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
Lien has a background in Bachelor in English (1st Degree), then she obtained Bachelor in Economics from Hanoi University of Foreign Trade. Recently, Lien finished her ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants-UK) study in June 2009, and became ACCA affiliate in August 2009. Her next plan is to achieve full membership of ACCA.

Nguyen Dang Minh, Driver Minh has served 5 different Heads of School at UNIS and he celebrates his 15th year at UNIS in 2010. Those
numbers prove how much he loves his work at UNIS. Though driving means facing risks and road difficulties daily, he enjoys driving around, watching all the happennings on his way. He plays football with his collegues sometimes after work, and mostly stays with his family during the weekend. He is married and has two sons, 10 and 2 years old.

Jolee Mosher, Communications Manager Jolee joined the UNIS team in December of 2007 and brings many years of experience in the community relations and marketing fields to the position. For five years, she oversaw the marketing and outreach of 17 community health clinics in Minnesota, USA. She is also a licensed EAL teacher with over 15 years teaching experience in Thailand, Indonesia, and USA. She specializes in workforce English and teaching adults. She enjoys cooking, dining at all levels of restaurants, traveling and spending time with her two young children both of whom are at UNIS. Returning to Asia as a family, especially Vietnam has been a desire which is now being fulfilled.

Naoko Inui, Community Liaison Officer
Naoko joined UNIS as the Community Liaison Officer in January 2007. After she obtained her degree in English Literature in Tokyo, Japan, she lived in six countries from the Middle East to South America with her family. It is her eighth year in Vietnam and she had been involved in many UNIS activities such as Treasurer for the Parent Teacher Association. She has one daughter in Grade 10. |

Dinh An Ha, Community Education Officer
Ha brings with her a strong background in customer service and brand communications. Demonstrating a preference for creative work, she has worked for a software development company and before joining UNIS, a design and advertising agency where she worked with Banking/Financial corporate clients on their brand management needs. Ha joined UNIS since 2007, firstly working as Communications Assistant for 2 years and she has been promoted to the Community Education Officer position in August 2009. She enjoys cooking with her husband to create interesting East meets West dishes. |

Nguyen Hong Quyen, Communications Assistant Quyen joined UNIS as at the beginning of 2010 after obtaining her MS degree in Management in France.
Passionate about marketing and customer relations, she had a couple years of experience working in the marketing field for different companies and sectors. Her most recent job prior to UNIS was as a marketing assistant in Epson Europe company in France. Quyen enjoys working in an international environment like UNIS. She loves cooking, trying out new dishes while listening to classical music.

Nguyen Thu Thuy, HR Administrator
Thuy joined the Human Resources Department in January 2009, bringing with her 5½ years of experience in various administrative positions at UNIS, firstly as PA to the Head of School, then as ES Secretary and MSHS Secretary. Thuy gained a BA degree in Foreign Trade Economics and an MBA degree with concentration in Human Resources Management. Thuy has fully enjoyed her time at UNIS, working with students, parents and teachers in an international educational setting and is very excited being in her new role as HR Administrator.

Pham Minh Trang , HR Officer (Travel)
Trang started her employment at UNIS in October 2007 as the Human Resources Officer. Previously, she was involved with international travel agents for over 2 years. Trang was looking for new challenges in a professional and multi-cultural environment; that’s what brought her to UNIS. Trang’s knowledge regarding regional countries is very useful in handling the school’s travel matters, and her strong willingness to learn helps complete other departmental requirements. Her hobbies include reading and travelling. |

Joyce Miller, MS/HS Librarian
Joyce was a teacher at international schools for 15 years before following in her grandfather’s footsteps and becoming a librarian! What a great choice she had made; She love being a librarian. “I get to help people and read for a living—what’s better than that! “This is her third international school library, and it is a fabulous one. Joyce has education degrees from University of Texas and University of Massachusetts, and most recently my Information Science Certificate from University of Washington, Seattle. She has two darling daughters, both adopted from China. The family joined UNIS in 2007 and are very excited to be back in Asia.

Dao Thi Huong: Library Aide
Huong Dao has a Bachelor of art in English. Before working in UNIS, she worked at Hanoi Children Palace as volunteer for three years during the time she was in University. She works at the school for almost 11 years. First two years from 1995 to 1997 she was the school receptionist, and from 1997 onward as the library aide. |

Sandra Dodd, ES Librarian
Sandra has a Bachelor of Education from Charles Darwin University in Australia. She has taught throughout the Primary Years and was an Assistant Principal in a large outback school before taking the opportunity to move overseas with her daughters. She first travelled to Canada, teaching in Vancouver and then took up a teaching position at the British International School in Istanbul. She worked there for four years combining her duties as a Grade 4 and 5 teacher and Campus Coordinator. She moved to Vietnam two years ago. Her two daughters now live in Australia. |

Le Bach Quynh: Library Aide
In 1992, Quynh completed a Bachelor of Teaching from the Hanoi Foreign Languages Teachers’ University. In 1997, she completed a Bachelor of Economics from the Hanoi Foreign Trade University. She has been working for UNIS as a library assistant since 1999. Before joining UNIS, she worked for a company dealing with hotel rooms, apartments and office leasing. She is married and has one son, and enjoys reading, travelling and shopping. Quynh was born and grew up in Hanoi. She loves Hanoi so much that she can not imagine how she could live far from here. |

Liam Eaton, Facilities Manager
Liam is an engineer who has been working in the building and construction industry for more than 25 years. He has worked in the UK, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to joining UNIS in February 2005, Liam worked in the Mekong Delta for three years constructing and installing the first ship lock in Vietnam as well as a solar powered navigation system for the Mekong waterways. |

Quach Mai Linh, Operations Officer
Prior to joining UNIS in 2000, Linh was a Project Engineer for over four years for Samsung Engineering and Construction Company at the Rose Garden Tower, one of the first high-rise buildings in Hanoi. After this project was completed, he was selected to supervise the operation and maintenance work of the building as part of the Contractors guarantee obligations. Linh has University Degrees in both English Language and Business Management Administration which have greatly benefited his work, particularly since the move to a larger-scale school campus. He is very satisfied with his work at UNIS and with his family life. He and his two sons play his favourite sports together: chess, games and music, among others. |

Le Trung Hai, Handy man
Hai worked as a UNIS security staff member for 7 years, starting in 1997. In 2004, he moved to his present position as a handyman at UNIS. Hai enjoys working at UNIS, especially seeing and learning from all the children. |

Phung Hoai Ngoc, Handy man
Ngoc has been working for UNIS as a Handyman since 1998. Prior to coming to UNIS he used to work as an electrician for Diplomatic Service Bureau in Van Phuc. He likes children and working at UNIS. Ngoc is married and has two young children. |

Loc started in 1997 as a Handyman. He is finds the environment stimulating and meeting people from around the world. |

Ngo Quang Kha, Handy man
Before 1997, I worked for a Vietnamese state-owned company. From 1997 to October 2006, I was employed by KURIHARA Vietnam. I moved to UNIS’s Operation Office as the Handyman Storekeeper in October 2006. In my current position, I always do my best and cooperate with other people to fulfill my duties in order to make my contribution to the smooth operations at UNIS. I am married with a 22 year old son who is currently a Fourth Year student at the Industrial University and a 15 year old daughter now in Grade 9. |

Nguyen Van Thai, Handy man Thai joined UNIS in 2006 as a handy man. Prior to that, he worked for Da River Construction Company from 1993 to 1995, and then moved to INTERTEC AS, a Danish company. After 10 years of working at INTERTEC, he left for F.S Midth in 2005. Thai obtained an industrial electricity degree at the Vietnamese-Russian School in Hoa Binh Province. He is married with 2 sons, Viet Anh, 7 years old and Danh Khoi, 2 years old. He loves children and finds UNIS a great environment to work for.

Gemma Fone, School Nurse Gemma has been a registered nurse for thirty years. She has worked in the public hospital system in
Australia, the NHS in the United Kingdom and for ten years in a Private Health Centre in her home town
of Port Macquarie. She has a wide range of experiences from working in Accident and Emergency
Departments, General Medical and Surgical wards to being a nurse. After completing a BA (Psych) and counseling certificate, she practiced as a private counselor for four years. Gemma lived in Vietnam with her husband for a year prior to commencing her job as School Nurse at UNIS. She has three grown children and one granddaughter. Gemma enjoys being able to travel and experience living in different cultural environments.

Nguyen Vu Lan Anh, School Nurse
Dr Lan Anh graduated from Hanoi Medical University and worked as a doctor in the Hanoi International School clinic for nearly 10 years. She enjoys working with students as they are lovely and have lots of fun. Her interests include reading, swimming, and listening to music. Most importantly she enjoys spending time with her 10 year old daughter. | |

Phan Thi Trang , School Nurse Trang graduated from Nursing Secondary Medical School in January, 1974, and became a nurse supervisor in 1979. In 1996, she graduated from Nursing Surveillance in France. She has over 20 years of working as a nursing supervisor in Vietnam national hospital, more than 4 years at nurse co-operative in Angola and 10 years of nurse & nurse supervisory experience at International SOS clinic Hanoi. Trang interests a lot in working, cooking, listening to music and helping others.

Nguyen Minh Chung, IT Officer
Chung is a graduate from the Hanoi University of Technology. He also holds an additional Bachelor degree in English from Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. He worked as an Administration Officer for the UNIS Project Office which carried out the Technical Design stage for UNIS from June 2002 to December 2002. Prior to joining UNIS in October 2006, Chung worked for VDC, an Internet Service Provider in Vietnam, for four years. Chung spends most of his time at home with his playful and lovely four-year old son. |

Nguyen The Khanh, IT Officer Khanh began to work at UNIS in January 2010. He graduated from Economics University – Information Technology Faculty. He has more than 10 year experience in the Information Technology sector. Besides enjoying his career, he researches new technologies, spend times with his family; especially his 4 month old son. Khanh likes watching children play and enjoys working in educational environment.

Nguyen Xuan Quynh, Fitness Instructor Quynh has taught bodybuilding for about 10 years now. He received a golden medal in Bodybuilding Hanoi
Competition in 2007. He teaches yoga, pilates, swimming and weight lifting. As professional gym instructor, Quynh is able to design private programme for anyone, specialised in training young people. He used to work for a Korean gym for 2 years, and Sofitel Plaza for 1 year. 2010 is his second year at UNIS. He is passionate about travelling, swimming, bodybuilding and dancing. Quynh was born in Hanoi, he loves his city and enjoys working at UNIS.
