Ali Shebani, PE Teacher
Ali Shebani graduated from Douglas College with a Diploma in Sports Science before moving on to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where he completed a Bachelor in Human Kinetics. Ali then went on to Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia and finished off a M.A. in Teaching. He is an avid rugby enthusiast and enjoys watching sports. Travelling is also a huge interest of Ali's, visiting 6 continents and 21 countries so far!

Annalee Horton, Pre-Kindergarten
Annalee has been an early childhood teacher for 17 years and has worked overseas in both British and international curriculum schools for the past 15 years. Before joining UNIS, Annalee worked in Poland, Turkey, Russia and Egypt. She holds a BA Honours degree in Music and Theology and a post graduate certificate in education (Early Years). She is married with two young daughters who are both students in the ECC. She enjoys singing, dancing, reading, listening to music and being involved in community service projects in her very limited spare time.

Amy Pitcairn, ECC Teacher
Amy is from the UK and has been teaching young children for 13 years. After gaining her education degree from Surrey University, she taught a very diverse student body in West London. Ready for a change, Amy moved to Bangladesh to teach in an IB World School in Dhaka where she discovered the PYP and a love for inquiry teaching. She came to Hanoi with her husband and daughter in 2008 to join the Kindergarten team. Amy enjoys cycling, photography, running, good food and family time.

Barbara Bowman, Kindergarten
Barbara is excited to begin her first year at UNIS this year! She will be teaching kindergarten and is looking forward to the challenges, joys, and victories that she will be able to share with her young learners. She began her international career teaching preschool in Tokyo, where she remained for five years before moving onto Shanghai and teaching kindergarten. Barbara is originally from Florida and received her bachelor’s degree in pre-k/primary education in 2001 and earned her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 2007. Barbara’s passions are reading, cooking, beach activities, and travel and she feels very lucky to be here in Hanoi!

Bob Horton, Elementary Principal
Bob has been a professional educator for thirty-six years and an administrator for the last twenty-six years. This will be his second year at UNIS. He has led both British and international curriculum schools overseas for the past seventeen years, having previously worked in Poland, Turkey, Russia and Egypt. Prior to this, his teaching and administrative experience was within the independent preparatory school sector in the United Kingdom. He is a Workshop Leader for the IB Primary Years Programme and involved with the Council of International Schools Accreditation Services. He was Chair of the European Council of International Schools Elementary Administrators Committee from 2005-2008. He is married with two young daughters, both of whom attend UNIS.

Charlotta Ekman, Swedish Teacher
Charlotta is the new Swedish Teacher at UNIS Hanoi this year. She has taught languages at schools in Stockholm, Sweden for six years. Before deciding to become a teacher she studied Mandarin Chinese and East Asian Studies at university and she has spent five years of her life in China studying Chinese, teaching English and taking Swedish tourists around the country. Charlotta loves travelling, this summer she went on an overland safari in East Africa and she dreams about going to Borneo to see the orangutans.

Claire Febrey, Discovery/Pre-Kindergarten Claire has a Bachelor of Arts and PGCE in Early Childhood Education from Exeter University, England. After teaching for three years in the UK, she moved to The British School, Nepal in 1998 where she taught Pre-K. Claire then moved with her husband, Matt to the International School of Tanganyika in 2003. Here she taught Discovery, Pre-K and K children. During this posting, she also had two children of her own. Claire and her family moved to UNIS in 2006 and are pleased to be back in South-East Asia. Claire enjoys most outdoor activities and loves to travel with her family.

Claire Holbein, French Teacher
Claire is originally from France but has been living aboard since early childhood. Claire arrived to Vietnam 11 years ago to teach French to teenagers and adults in the French cultural center. To complete her French degree in education and teaching French as a foreign language, she specialized in children education and early bilingual languages with a masters degree. Two years ago, Claire went to Thailand to help to set up a private educational center for children as a teacher and a coordinator before returning to Hanoi. Claire has been working at UNIS since January 2009 and it is a real pleasure for her to work in a such international environment. Claire is married and has two young boys.

Clare Michelsen, Grade 4 English as an Additional Language
Clare has a BA in French, English and Linguistics from the University of Ulster, Belfast. She also holds a BeD in Special Needs Education a PGCE in language teaching, an IGCSE French Oral Examiners Certificate from the University of Cambridge. She gained PYP experience during her years spent teaching in both Namibia and Belgium. She spent 12 years teaching French and EAL, as well as Grades 2 to 4, throughout Africa and Europe in both international and private schools before joining UNIS in August, 2007. She enjoys reading, traveling, walking and spending time with her family.

Clémence Barbier, Elementary French Teacher
Clémence is a chemical engineer who graduated from University in Lyon, France. She has more than twelve years’ teaching experience in France and in Asia, including Bombay in India and Vientiane in Laos, where she taught art, mathematics, physic and chemistry, as well as Middle and High School Coordinator positions in French schools. She has worked at UNIS since 2004, teaching Elementary, Middle and High School students. In her free time, she enjoys making perfume using the magnificent flora of Vietnam.

Daniel Lucardie Daniel is a qualified Primary/Elementary teacher from Australia, with nineteen years of teaching experience. For the last six years, he has been teaching at the International School of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He enjoys teaching all areas of the curriculum and has a great belief in the philosophy of the Primary Years Programme. His passions in life are his wife and twenty month old son. Between chasing his son around the house and working at UNIS he likes to keep fit, travel and relax close to a surf beach.

David Carter, Grade 3 EAL Teacher
On graduating with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from the University of London in 1989, David went to work in Thailand. He became a certified TEFL instructor, taught at the British Council and then spent five years at the New International School of Thailand teaching both primary and secondary ESL. After taking a three year break from teaching to explore literary interests, David returned to teaching in 2002 and worked for six years as a primary EAL teacher in Abu Dhabi. Earlier this year he completed a full-time Masters in Education at Goldsmiths, University of London and has now been awarded his degree with a Distinction. His interests include writing, reading, photography and music. |

David Caleb
David has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. His previous teaching experience includes teaching grades four to seven. This is his sixth year teaching Grade 5 at UNIS. David and his wife have a three year old son and a one year old daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, coaching basketball, spending time with his family, travelling and playing sports.

Dang Phuong Mai, PK SD- ECC
Mai has a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education from the International College of Early Childhood Education.Before joining Unis in 2009,she worked for a Vietnamese Pre-School for a year then moved to Rainbow school and worked there for 4 years.She loves children and enjoys working in teaching environment. Mai likes travelling with her husband and her little son.

Do Thi Thu Huong, Grade 1 Teacher Aide
Huong has a Bachelor Degree in English Language Teaching, including a one-year post graduate course. She worked part-time as an Assistant Teacher at Apollo Language Center for two and a half year, before taking up her second job as a teacher aide, a position she has filled for five years. She enjoys working at UNIS. |

Eleanora Jaranova, Discovery to Grade 2 Physical Education
Eleonora graduated from the Sport and Pedagogy Academy of Latvia as a Physical Education and Swimming teacher and holds a Master Degree in Sports Science. She started her career in 1987 as a swimming coach, during which she has coached the Latvian National Junior swim team and directed a swimming club’s team in Malta. Before commencing at UNIS in August 2006, Eleonora was responsible for Elementary PE teaching at the International School of Latvia and K-10 teaching at the International School of Helsinki, Finland. She also coaches the Hammerheads swim team. This is the first time in Asia for Eleonora and her family – partner Brian (also teaching PE at UNIS) and son Nils – and they enjoy all their new experiences here. |

Elizabeth O’Neill, Discovery to Grade 1 Music
Liz has been an early elementary teacher for many years. She has worked the majority of her teaching life in government schools in Australia but, after a stint in Cornwall, UK, decided to continue teaching overseas, travelling with her husband and three teenage children. She has been a music specialist in international schools in Singapore and Prague; a Kindergarten and EAL teacher in Nanjing, China, and is now very happy to be working as a music specialist in the ECC at UNIS Hanoi. She loves the opportunities offered to herself, her family and all the children in such a diverse and happy learning environment. |

Elizabeth Murray, Grade 4 Teacher
As the daughter of international teachers, Beth is excited to begin her own international teaching career. She is from the USS and holds a MA in elementary education with an emphasis in mathematics from the University of New Mexico. Beth taught upper elementary children in Albuquerque for twelve years before choosing to teach abroad. When not teaching, she loves to travel and learn about different cultures, enjoy a variety of cuisines, walk, golf, and play card games. She is thrilled to be a part of the UNIS community. |

Georgina Haslemore, Kindergarten
Gina gained a Bachelor of Teaching degree in Early Childhood Education from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and a Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching from the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, Australia. Gina has held a variety of teaching positions in early childhood education, elementary education, music specialization and administration. She taught in Australia for many years before heading overseas to take up a position in another International School in Hanoi. This is her eighth year as a UNIS team member.

Gina Keefer-Titterington, ECC EAL Coordinator
Gina has a B.A. in English/French Literature, a M.A. in English/TESOL with a Certificate in Teaching and is completing a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education, emphasis on Early Years Multilingual Language Acquisition. Over the past 15 years, Gina has developed educational programs and taught English language and literature in U.S.A, France Japan, Mexico, and Czech Republic. Gina enjoys building sandcastles with her young daughters, Ella and Sylvie and SCUBA diving, skiing and playing tennis with her husband, Troy.

Hannah Floyd, Grade 1 EAL Teacher
Hannah joined the EAL department at UNIS last year, after 3 years’ teaching English and leading the young
learners’ programme of a local language school. She grew up in England, and studied and trained as an English teacher among the dreaming spires of Oxford and Cambridge Universities from 1998-2002. Hannah speaks English, French and Vietnamese, and in her free time in Hanoi she has been playing music, riding motorbikes and writing. Hannah lives with her conservationist husband and her new baby, and this year has been working part time in order to care for her new arrival.

Heather Westwood, Grade 5
Heather Westwood completed her Bachelor of Education and Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (TESOL) from the University of Tasmania, Australia. She initially taught Physical Education for a number of years, and then worked with overseas students at the university level, as well as teaching English to migrants and refugees before moving into the primary classroom. For the past 11 years Heather has worked in IBPYP schools in Thailand and the Bahamas, and along with her husband Pete and her two children. Her eldest child just graduated from UNIS in 2009 and the youngest one will graduate in 2011. She is enthusiastic and happy to be at UNIS. As a PYP Trainer she has also trained, evaluated, consulted and worked with teachers, schools and curriculum development issues both locally and internationally.

Heidi Kay, Grade 5 English as an Additional Language
Heidi is originally from Chicago, IL, USA but has been working overseas for the past six years. Heidi comes to UNIS from her last teaching assignment in Sandefjord, Norway. Previously, she taught in the USA, Japan, China and Korea. She holds a Bachelors degree in K-9 education and in Music. When not teaching, Heidi loves to run, use her computer, hike, be near or in water, learn languages and travel. Heidi has always wanted to live in Hanoi and was very excited to join UNIS in August 2007. |

Jenni Taylor, Grade 1 Teacher
Jenni, a Kiwi, joined UNIS Hanoi in January 2008. She has taught a variety of levels and enjoys the challenges each one presents. Her first international experience was a teacher exchange to Aberdeen, Scotland where she learnt a lot about her own teaching and that of others! The travel bug bit her as well! Jenni has had the privilege of teaching in Beijing, China for 9 years. Back home in New Zealand, she has been involved with teacher professional development and worked as a support person for international students in a polytechnic. Her formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning and an ESOL in the Mainstream for Early Learners certificate. Photography is one of her favourite pastimes. |

Joanne Whitty, Grade 1 Teacher
Joanne came to UNIS in 2009 and is excited about the stimulating and professional learning environment she has seen here. She originally trained and taught in Melbourne, Australia and has had regular stints teaching at international schools in Malaysia, Papua New Guinea (where her school in the town of Rabaul was devastated by volcanic eruptions in 1994) and most recently Siem Reap, Cambodia. She has worked in a range of positions in schools including classroom teaching, PE, Literacy Support, English as an additional language and as Student Wellbeing Coordinator. Her interests include yoga and travel. Joanne is accompanied by her husband and two daughters who are also excited about attending UNIS.

John Cushing, Grade 3 Teacher
John holds a B.S. in Organizational Behavior and a M.A. in Teaching/Education. He has a Multiple Subject Professional Clear Teaching Credential as well as credentialed to teach English Language Development for Grades K to 12. His previous classroom teaching experience includes Grades 2 to 5 as well as Language Arts Teacher Trainer. John joined UNIS in August 2007 as the EAL Teacher for Grades 2. Outside of teaching, he enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography, reading, and yes… cooking. “It is a joy and privilege to be part of the UNIS community!”

Julia Hatch, Grade 1
Julia has been an international teacher for 20 years and has worked in Abu Dhabi (U.A.E.), Muscat (Oman), and, most recently, Dresden (Germany) before commencing at UNIS in August, 2007. She has worked with Early Years through to Grade 3. Julia views herself as a Life Long Learner and, as such, she enjoys the challenges that living and working in an international community bring. Julia is excited about being in Viet Nam and at UNIS, and is looking forward to discovering the Far East. In her spare time Julia enjoys jogging (very slowly), Line Dancing (no laughing please!), travelling, spending time with family and friends, and now, watching cable television - which she’s never had before! |

Julie Porter, Elementary Learning Support Julie has a Bachelor of Education from the UK and has specialised in Early Childhood Education. She also has a Diploma in Special Needs and was a SENCO in a large primary school for two years. After teaching for eight years in the UK, she moved overseas to work at the British International School in Jakarta, Indonesia. She then took a break to take care of her own children and since then has taught in other International Schools in Japan, The Netherlands and Malaysia. Julie moved to UNIS in August 2007 and is here with her husband, Dave, and their two daughters. She enjoys most outdoor activities, reading, yoga and loves to travel with her family.

Karen Daysh, Grade 2 Teacher
Karen is from New Zealand and has been teaching children for 11 years. After graduating from the University of Waikato with a degree majoring in Psychology and Education, she taught in various schools within New Zealand and England. She then changed direction and worked as a volunteer in Nigeria training teachers in the use of phonics and effective teaching practices for two years, before taking up a teaching position in the capital, Abuja. Karen is looking forward to working at UNIS and to exploring Vietnam and South East Asia. |

Karen Gay, ES PE Teacher
Although she was born in Trinidad, Karen grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. She completed her undergraduate studies in Physical Education and Recreation Studies at the University of Manitoba and completed her Masters degree while overseas. Karen has worked in Taiwan, Lesotho and most recently China where she worked in Shanghai for 8 years. Karen enjoys sports including outdoor activities such as bicycle touring, hiking and rock climbing. Karen enjoys being part of the UNIS community and spending time with her students and teaching peers.

Katherine Baird, Grade 5
Katherine has taught in a variety of classroom settings ranging from K-7, implementing the PYP and the MYP. She graduated from the University of South Australia awarded with a Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/Primary). Katherine's love for teaching is inspired by her mother. Katherine enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends and she has a passion for cooking. |

Kathryn Bond, Grade 1 Teacher
Kathy has her Diploma of Teaching and her Bachelor of Education. She has been an early elementary teacher for many years, both in Australia and overseas. UNIS Hanoi is Kathy’s fifth International School and she is very happy to be teaching in a PYPIB school again. Kathy feels that teaching at an International School combines her main interests of exploring new learning and new countries. She is looking forward to doing both in Vietnam at UNIS – as well as enjoying the excellent food available in Hanoi! |

Kate Maconachie, D-1 Art Teacher
Kate is originally from Trinity Beach (where the rainforest meets the reef) in North Queensland Australia, but she has worked abroad for the past 12 years. Kate has taught children between the ages of 3 to 10 in a variety of educational settings. Previously she taught in New Zealand, Vietnam, China, Myanmar and Finland. Kate has a Bachelor of Visual Arts Honors and a Bachelor of Primary Education. She is a practicing artist and has exhibited in Australia and Finland. Kate also enjoys spending time with her family, travelling off the beaten track, dancing, meditating, playing her guitar, and doing yoga. |

Laurie Rombaut, Grades 2-5 French
Laurie is a new teacher this year and she is excited about the UNIS experience ! From France, she completed a double BA in Foreign Languages/International Business and French as a Foreign Language, and a Master in project management, multimedia-based cultural and pedagogical products. She has been teaching French for 4 years from high school to university levels in France, United-States and China. Laurie has been living in Hanoi for two years now, working on educative projects aiming at increasing French teaching in Vietnam. Laurie loves reading, playing and travelling, and can’t wait to explore more of Asia ! |

Le Hoang Linh, English as an Additional Language Teacher Aide
Linh graduated from the Moscow Teacher’s Training University in 2002. She is a qualified linguist teacher. After graduation, she moved to Beijing for Chinese language training. Linh commenced working at UNIS for four months in 2003 as a Pre-K teacher aide. She was then appointed EAL Teacher Aide in 2005. UNIS is her first work place. She’s very satisfied at UNIS and loves her job. |

Le Thi Thanh Hue, Grade 1 Teacher Aide Hue started working at UNIS as a teacher aide in 2000. Previous to joining UNIS, she worked 2 years as a teacher in a Vietnamese school and 3 years as a teacher aide for a Down Syndrome boy at in UNIS. Hue finished the College of Kindergarten teacher in 1995 and the Training College for foreign language teacher in 2000. |

Le Thuy An, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Aide
An graduated from the Hanoi National University in 1994. She joined UNIS in 1997 and worked as a Receptionist for one and a half years. She was appointed to a Teacher Aide position in the Early Childhood Centre in 1999. She has two children, one son and one daughter. She likes reading, cooking, and traveling. |

Lillian Canada, ES Counselor
Lillian Canada holds an elementary teaching certificate and a secondary endorsement to teach English Literature. She holds a school counselor certificate and most recently is working to complete certification in Therapeutic Play Skills. She met and married her husband, Chip Barder, in Africa and together they have raised 3 children in 6 countries outside the USA. Her passion outside of teaching and counseling is quilting and writing. She was excited beyond words to be returning to Asia where her 2 youngest children were born, and looks forward to her stay in Vietnam. |

LilliAnn Lucas, Grade 3 Teacher
LilliAnn Lucas is from Virginia in the United States, but has been teaching away from home for ten years. For her twelve-year teaching career, she has taught Grades 3 and 4, allowing her to really get to know this age group. She and her husband, also a teacher at the school, have taught in Ecuador, Russia, Israel, and are pleased to continue their adventure here at UNIS. She has two children who are also attending the school, in the ECC. Outside of school, LilliAnn loves traveling, photography, attempting to learn new languages, and eating. Luckily, she finds that all of these hobbies go together and she often does them simultaneously. |

Lisa Corrie,ECC Teacher
Lisa is from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She has a Bachelor of Education, Honors Degree in Science from Queen’s University. Lisa joined UNIS in August 2008 after previously working in an IB school in Bogota, Colombia for three years. Lisa has also worked with several NGOs in Central and South America and most recently in Asia. In her spare time she enjoys learning languages, dancing, playing hockey, swimming and adventure sports. Lisa loves the quote; “Seek the wisdom of the ages, but look at the world through the eyes of a child." |

Lucy Norton, Grade 2
Lucy Norton is presently in her second year at UNIS, teaching Grade 2. She is from the UK and gained her BE degree (honours) from Leeds in 1992. Since then she has been teaching overseas in International schools in the Bahamas, Oman, Austria (Vienna), and finally in Hanoi. “I enjoy working at UNIS, the excitement of living in Hanoi, and having the opportunity to travel around Vietnam. I enjoy taking part in all sports, cooking, socializing, travelling, and spending time with my family ".

Natalie Warner, Grade 2
This is Natalie’s first year at UNIS and she is excited to join the community. She just recently moved to Vietnam from Stavanger, Norway with her fiancé who is also a teacher. Prior to teaching Grade 3 at the International School of Stavanger, Natalie was involved in teaching and co-founding a school just outside of Portland, Oregon. Natalie’s undergraduate work was done in Vancouver, BC and she obtained her Master’s in Education from the University of Denver. Natalie enjoys spending her free time adventuring in the outdoors, travelling, reading great books and sampling ice cream. |

Ly Bich Hang, Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Hang graduated from Hanoi University for Teachers of Foreign Languages. Before coming to UNIS, she worked at Daystar International School, a Montessori based pre- school in Hanoi. She has been working at UNIS since 1996. |

Mai Nguyen Thanh, Art and Music Assistant
Mai graduated from Hanoi National University with a B.A. in English Language Teaching. Mai has worked for NGO’s and Vietnamese schools. Mai is very happy to work at UNIS as an Art and Music Assistant in the year 2008.UNIS is a very good working environment for her to develop herself further. She has opportunities to meet and work with children and people from all over the world. She really enjoys working at UNIS and being able to use her creative talents. |

Matt Febrey, Physical Education & Health
Matt has a Bachelor of Education, Honors Degree in Physical Education from Exeter University, England. He joined UNIS in 2006 after previously teaching in Tanzania, Nepal and England. Matt enjoys the challenges that living and working in an international community brings and is interested in a wide variety of sports and activities. Matt is married to Claire who teaches in the Early Childhood Centre and they have two children. |

Michelle Matias, Information Technology Michelle graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines with a degree in Behavioral Science. She took her postgraduate Teaching Certificate in 1999 and has enjoyed teaching since then. She also holds a Teaching License in Business and Technology. Prior to joining UNIS in August, 2007, Michelle has taught in Early Years and ICT at the International School Manila, Bahrain Bayan School, and Medan International School in Indonesia. Her interests include dancing, reading, hiking, surfing the Net, and travelling.

Michelle Wise, Grades 2 to 5 Art
Michelle joined UNIS this in August, 2007. She has extensive experience teaching art in elementary, middle and high schools. Most recently, Michelle taught art from K-12 in an international school in Cambodia. She has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, from University of Canterbury, New Zealand and a master’s in teaching from University of Sydney, Australia. Her husband works as a conservation biologist and they have two young boys, one of whom just started UNIS this year. |

Mindy Slaughter, Grade 2 EAL
Mindy has been teaching for the past 6 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, as well as a Master in Curriculum and Instruction with an ESL endorsement. She began her teaching career in Taiwan as a classroom teacher. She then moved back to Portland, Oregon and earned a degree in ESL. After that she worked as both an ESL and classroom teacher. This is her second year at UNIS and she enjoys working with such wonderful students and staff. Mindy enjoys writing, soccer, coaching and traveling. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her husband and baby Aubrey. |

Nguyen Nga Mi, Grade 3 Teacher Aide Mi graduated from the Hanoi University of Education with a Literature specialty and Hanoi University of Foreign Languages in 2006. Mi enjoy reading, writing stories (some of them were published in newspapers for teens) and listening (it is so useful for writing). She loves children and cannot imagine how she could live without them. She joined UNIS in December 2006. |

Before commencing at UNIS in December, 2006, she worked for Hanoi International School as a Teaching Assistant, and several companies. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Grades 1 to 5 EAL Teacher Aide
Hang gained a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Early childhood Education in 1996. She then worked as a teacher at a Vietnamese Pre-school for one year and at Rainbow School for three years from 1998 to 2001. She joined UNIS in 2001, where she worked as a grade-level teacher aide, before being appointed to her current position. She really enjoys the company of her twin girls.

Nguyen Thu Hang (Hannah), Grade 4 Teacher Aide
Hannah obtained a Bachelor of Primary Education in 2003 and a Bachelor of Language in English two years later. She taught Vietnamese to Grades 1-2 over three years at another International School before joining UNIS. She loves helping children with their studies and enjoys seeing their progress. Hannah likes travelling and discovering new things in life. |

Nguyen Thu Huyen, ES Vietnamese Mother Tongue Teacher
Huyen gained her Bachelor of Arts and also her teaching certificate from Hanoi National University of
Foreign Studies. She joined UNIS in 2004 as a teaching assistant and she has been teaching Vietnamese Mother Tongue since January 2010. Before joining UNIS, she taught Vietnamese at Hanoi International school for elementary and middle school students. Huyen enjoys teaching at UNIS as well as spending time with her family.

Pho joined UNIS in 1997 as a storeroom keeper and has been a teaching aide for Elementary Physical Education since 2000. During this time Pho worked with a variety of teaching staff. Patricia Mullen, Pre-Kindergarten
Patti is from the USA and has a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has taught 3, 4, and 5 year olds in local and international schools in America, Singapore, South Africa, and China. She came to Hanoi 1 1/2 years ago, joined UNIS as a substitute teacher in the ECC and Elementary levels, and is excited to become a full-time member of the faculty this year. She enjoys golfing, watching most other sports, reading (especially on beaches), and travelling the world with her husband and two daughters. |

Pete Westwood, Elementary Curriculum/PYP Coordinator
Pete has a Bachelor of Education, a Graduate Diploma of Education Studies (TESOL), and a Master of Education Studies, all from the University of Tasmania, Australia. He has been teaching for around 20 years; six in a leading private school in Australia, the last 14 internationally. He worked in Thailand for seven years and spent two years in The Bahamas before coming to Vietnam where he is in his fifth year. Pete has held similar roles to his current position in his past two schools. He is a PYP workshop leader and trainer of teachers and has conducted workshops in numerous countries at different levels, on four continents. He is in Hanoi with his spouse, Heather, who teaches Grade 5, as well a daughter in Grade 11. Heather and Pete also have a son studying at University in Australia.

Sarah Dempsey, Pre-Kindergarten
Sarah has a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education from Massey University, New Zealand. Sarah has spent most of her career working in New Zealand schools teaching younger children. Sarah joined UNIS Hanoi in August 2006 after spending a year in Korea teaching and helping to set up an English Language school. Sarah is in Vietnam with her husband and two daughters. |

Sally Oxenberry, Elementary School Music teacher
Sally has been teaching in Asia for 9 years at Shanghai American School, China (MS Music and Drama) and Jakarta International School, Indonesia (K – 5 Music). Originally from Adelaide, South Australia, Sally graduated from a Bachelor of Music at the Elder Conservatorium and a Grad.Dip.Ed at Adelaide University. In Australia, Sally taught at OLSH College, Alice Springs (Years 6 – 12 Music), Scotch College, Adelaide (Years R – 6 Music), Loreto College, Adelaide (Years R – 7 Music) and worked for the Australian Girls Choir as Conductor for a variety of Choirs at the Adelaide Branches. Sally is passionate about A cappella music and is very happy to be joining the UNIS Hanoi Community this year.

Simon Norton, Grade 4
Simon has taught in primary education for 17 years. He gained his Bachelor of Education Degree (Hons) in Primary Education and PE from Carnegie College, Leeds in 1992. Simon previously taught in England, The Bahamas, Oman and Austria. He is joined at UNIS by his wife, Lucy and his three beautiful children: Toby, Sam and baby Harriet. She likes reading, skiing, hiking, running, biking and has been learning to surf in the cold New Zealand waters! |

Tracy Smith, Grade 1 Teacher
Tracy has been teaching across the age ranges of 4 year olds to 12 year olds since 1997. Before arriving in Vietnam Tracy taught in Sydney, Australia and Singapore. Thuy has a Bachelor of Arts. She graduated from Hanoi University for Teachers of Foreign Languages. She has been a staff member at UNIS since 1996. She first worked as the Receptionist for one year then as the Head of School’s Secretary for 10 years. She moved to the position of Teacher’s Aide in November 2007. Before joining UNIS, she worked at the Daystar International School, a Montessori based preschool in Hanoi. She has two sons. Tran Kim Dung, Vietnamese Teacher of ECC, Grades 1 to 3 Tran Kim Dung holds a Bachelor of Teaching ESL from Hanoi Teachers’ Training College and a BA from the National University of Foreign Studies. She taught ESL in a Vietnamese school for several years before joining UNIS. She enjoys teaching Vietnamese language and culture to expatriate children. Tran Thi Thu Dung, Art/Music Aide
Dung has a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language as well as a Certificate for Teaching at Hanoi Open University in 2001. For enriching her knowlegde, she continued at National Economics University for the second Degree in Finance and Banking.
Before coming to UNIS, Dung had four years working as Educational Assistant for childen who have Down Syndrome and Autism at Hanoi International Shool.
Last year, Dung joined UNIS firstly as a Teaching Assistant in Grade 1, and now as a Music and Arts Teaching Assistant.
Dung loves working with young kids and talking with them.
During her free time, Dung really likes listening to music, watching TV. She loves taking photos of flowers whenever she can and enjoys cooking. |

Xuan gained a Teacher’s Degree in teaching English as an Additional Language from Ha Bac Teachers’ Training College in 1994. She also worked as a teacher in the English Department at the same college for two years before moving to Hanoi. In 1996, Xuan joined UNIS as a Teacher Aide. She has worked with children at many different grade levels at UNIS Elementary School for nine years and has been teaching Vietnamese and culture since 2005. Trixi Kuballa, Grade 3 Teacher
Trixi Kuballa is very excited to start her second year at UNIS. She started last year as an EAL teacher in Grade 3 and took over a homeroom position in January 2009. This is Trixi’s first overseas position. Before she decided to become a teacher, Trixi worked for South African Airways and America West Airlines. Trixi then gained a M.A. in education for the subjects, English, German, and World Religions. After she left the German education system, Trixi worked at the Frankfurt International School for 4 years. After so many years working and living in Europe, America, Africa and Australia, it was time for Trixi to explore the missing continent – ASIA . Trixi loves to explore Hanoi’s cultural side with all its cafes, restaurants and exhibitions. She got a chance to travel Vietnam quite a bit last year and would like to explore the neighboring countries this year. Water is Trixi’s favorite element and she hopes to get lots of opportunities to swim and scuba dive. |

Troy Titterington, ES EAL Coordinator
Troy has been involved in educational linguistics and teacher training for over 20 years from pre-kindergarten to university level in the USA, Mexico, Japan, the Czech Republic and now in Vietnam. He holds a M.A. in TESOL from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and a B.A. in Linguistics and Spanish. He is a licensed English teacher and an Outward Bound instructor. When not teaching, Troy enjoys playing with his two daughters, Ella and Sylvie, and, in those rare moments of quiet, talking and with his wife Gina. His hobbies are fly–tying and fly-fishing, aiki-jujutsu, and reading. |
