After School Activities (ASA) Programme

The purpose of ASAs is to provide structured opportunities for students to learn and develop skills in the fields of the arts, sport and recreation in mixed age groups.

It provides students from all levels – beginners to advanced – with opportunities to try new activities or extend their skills in their areas of interest. It provides the school with an opportunity to prepare for performance events, such as drama and music activities, and prepare sporting teams for competitions. Overall, it gives our students a chance to mix with a range of other students from our diverse population.

At UNIS, we see this as an important part of student life but it’s important to note that our activities are optional and some families may choose to achieve these goals in other community settings.  It’s important for students to select and attend those activities which they feel committed to as well as provide interests outside the academic setting.

We welcome students to sign-up for activities that they can incorporate into their other commitments. It is especially important for Middle/High School students to take into account their other commitments and not sign-up for too many activities that may cause stress and problems balancing ASAs with their academic work and their Community and Service commitments.

Bus and Transport
ASA students will take the late school bus home on the days they do their activity. The Transport Coordinator is informed and students are allocated to the appropriate late bus. Families should note the days their children attend activities and the Session 1 start and finish dates in order to make arrangements for those children who travel by car.

	Elementary School Details Elementary After School Activities range from arts to sport games. The program is available to students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 and runs from 3:15 to 4:15 pm from Monday to Friday. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 can participate up to a maximum of two activities; students from Grades 3 to 5 can participate up to a maximum of three activities.

Middle and High School Details
The MSHS ASA program offers a variety of sports and arts activities. Most of the take place right after school between 3:15 and 4:15pm. However, due to the high demand and the renage of activities, some are scheduled in the morning before school. Competetive sporting activities take place between 4:20 and 5:20pm. All students are welcome to sign up and we encourage them to choose from both sports and arts activities.

Community and Service Programme: Grades 6 to 10
Community Action Service: Grades 11 and 12
The Community and Service Programme is an important part of the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. Students are required to complete specified hours in order to complete their minimum Community and Service Requirements at UNIS and make a meaningful contribution to the community in which we live. Community and Service activities options will be made available to students at the same time as ASA options are made available as some of these activities do take place during ASA times. This gives students the opportunity to choose and balance their academic, Community and Service and ASA commitments.
