Congratulations to our Middle School MRISA team who
made the long journey to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to represent UNIS in
the sports of soccer and softball.
From all reports it was a fun filled few days with lots of great memories.
Participants should be proud of the results achieved: Boys Soccer
- 1st, Girls Soccer - 2nd and Softball - 3rd.

Semi Final: UNIS 2 ISHMC 1 (Tom Swinkels 2 goals)
Final: UNIS 2 ISPP 2 (UNIS won
3-2 on penalty kicks; Tom Swinkels 1 (pen), Marc de Leeuw 1 goal)
Comments from Coach Campbell:
"We pretty much dominated every
game we played but struggled to put teams away".
"Two great
games against ISPP. There was nothing between UNIS and ISPP but I think
we deserved the win on the number of chances we created"
"In the final we came from behind to go 2-1
up then conceeded with 2 mins left to go to penalties. Jerry scored
the crucial penalty, Tom
and Jacob also scored their pens. It was very tense and I am very proud
of them"
Girls Soccer
Game 1: UNIS 1 ISPP 1 (UNIS won 5-3 on penalties; Justine
Eggenberger 1 goal)
Game 2: UNIS 3 NISC 1 (Giulia Rinaldi 3 goals)
Semi Final: UNIS 1 ISHCMC
0 (Tess Sheehan 1goal)
Final: UNIS 0 ISPP 2
Comments from Coach Phi:
"Our girls team played
hard and deserved to make the final. The final was a tough game and our
girls were very tired by that stage of
the day. I would liek to thank the girls for their efforts as they
pushed themselves all day, well done!"
Co-Ed Softball The MRISA softball tournament in Phnom Penh
was abbreviated by rain. The UNIS team scored victories in its
first two
games over VIS and ISHMC. Both games were close. The ISHMC game was
particularly exciting as it ended in a 9-9 tie and was decided in a
five-player “bat off”. It was a true demonstration of the
tenacity of the UNIS squad and they gave a stellar performance under
pressure. UNIS was defeated by ISE, the team which eventually won the
final. Unfortunately, there was no chance for a third place playoff
due to rain.UNIS players also participated in a non-competitive one
inning game with NISC.
The team would like to thank the US Embassy Marines
who assisted with the coaching, Coach Joe, Coach Byers, and especially
Coach Nick who
paid his own expenses to make the journey to Phnom Penh. Their help
was highly appreciated and they did an excellent job of motivating
our players

"It was near impossible for
me to pick team stars at the coaches' meeting because this was a team
performance.
As a coach all you want is that everyone makes a contribution and plays
for the team; we did that superbly, they had great fighting spirit
which is why we were successful. My thanks to Yoel, Won Hee, Tom, Marc,
Jerry, Julian, Jeremy, Jacob, Mads and Lucus, you did yourselves and
UNIS proud."
