On behalf of everyone at the United Nations International School of Hanoi, I would like to welcome you to our school.

If you are new to UNIS-Hanoi, I hope that our website gives you a good introduction to our school and helps you to a better understanding of our mission and our special relationship with the United Nations. If you are already part of the UNIS-Hanoi school community, we hope this site will give you an even fuller sense of whom and what we are, what we do and why we do it. Our hope is that we offer something for everyone: something for you.

UNIS-Hanoi is a thriving school community that works closely together in a positive and challenging way to provide a flourishing and engaging learning environment so that every child can achieve his or her full potential. Your child will be made to feel welcome and will soon come to appreciate that he or she is valued and respected, encouraged to work in teams while discovering more about their own uniqueness as well as learning to care for others in the wider community. Each student will find a niche in an enervating and creative environment, which is designed to promote self-confidence and responsibility towards others in accordance with the ideals and principles of the United Nations. We are committed to the three International Baccalaureate programmes, which offer a rigorous and meaningful curriculum for our students, while we are constantly mindful of the needs of every student and their entitlement to work in a safe and secure environment. This learning environment will provide the essential content as well as developing the skills that will lead to entry into tertiary education, but we never lose sight of the fact that children learn best in situations which are innovative and fun.

And meaningful learning does not merely take place in the classroom, but also on the games field, in the swimming pool, on the stage, in the art studio as well as on field trips around Vietnam as well as abroad. Thus we hope the remarkable range of activities and programs we describe on our web site helps you understand the excitement of this place: its rich diversity of people, programmes and opportunities as well as its unifying vision of community and purpose.

Our teachers are well qualified and give freely of their time and expertise to ensure the level of support and care mentioned above. However, no school can operate successfully in isolation from the homes. UNIS-Hanoi is no exception and we are proud of the partnership that exists between our school and the homes of our families. We maintain an open-door policy and invite all of our parents to come to school, to meet with our professional teams and to discuss the development of their child, or children, whenever they feel the need. Working closely together, we stand a far better chance of being able to provide a better tomorrow for each child.

So please browse around our website. If you have questions, please get in touch with us, we are here to help you. Whether you are a long-time member of the school community or someone learning about our school for the first time, we hope this site, and, more importantly, the people behind it, inspires you want to become even more a part of our UNIS-Hanoi school community.

Yours Sincerely,

Alun Cooper
Head of School
