Community

The UNIS Community is composed of students, parents,
teachers, school staff and friends who come from different countries
and regions as well as from different backgrounds. Each member brings
a unique perspective to our community, which in combination constitutes
the UNIS spirit. While providing a sound academic environment, UNIS helps
to form a supportive community that encourages our students to become
responsible stewards of our global society and natural environment. The
promotion of diversity and understanding of cultural and religious differences
are vital to our community’s way of life.
UNIS recognises the need for effective communications
and to find out all that is happening in the community we have Tin
Tuc (the weekly school newsletter), the school website,
the Community Information Exchange Board on the campus. The monthly SCO meetings
and the Board of Directors’ meetings are channels that members
can employ to stay informed with important developments of the school
that can have an effect on every member of our extended community. UNIS
has always believed that each member of the community is a stakeholder
in our school.
Education is the core focus of any school. UNIS seeks
to provide a challenging and supportive education environment to all
of our students. As we also value the concept of being a life-long learner,
we also offer continuing education to the adults in our community as
well as the wider community in Hanoi. The Community
Education Programme (ComEd in short) coordinated by the
Community Relations Office offers a wide range of continuing education
courses from languages such as Vietnamese, English and Spanish to Yoga,
cooking, dancing, silk embroidery and many more. These classes give UNIS
visibility in Hanoi as a premier educational facility where all are welcome.
UNIS understands and appreciates the importance of keeping
one’s mother tongue language as an effective way of maintaining
one’s culture background. Therefore, the school actively supports
parent-organised Mother Tongue Programs by providing classroom space
and web links. Many such programs have flourished at UNIS. Students from
UNIS as well as other international schools in Hanoi are now able to
take their regular Chinese, Danish, Dutch,
German, Japanese and mother tongue classes at UNIS after school hours.
